The Flag Tour began on Sunday, August 9 at the Darwin Festival. During the show on the 29th of August Xavier Rudd & The United Nations stopped by the Central Coast Leagues Club, during their Australia-wide tour through August, September and October. This tour is a celebration of "Flag", the second single on their acclaimed debut album NANNA. I was blessed with the opportunity to capture this SOLD OUT performance. A touching celebration of global sound with a Rudd true twist. The eight-piece band comprising of musicians from Samoa, Germany, New Guinea, Australia and Africa. Xavier refers to this album his "dream project".
This album does have more of reggae touch than any of his other creations which normally have more a blues, folk or indie feel. The Flag tour is currently underway covering 35 dates across all states including performances at which were held at The Darvin Festival and yet to be seen at the Caloundra Music Festival. The tour is also considered the largest regional tour Xavier has undertaken since 2012! Being the most dynamic album of his career, and not surprising why Xavier is taking it to almost every town in Australia.
“In a time when Australia is digging deep, marching together and standing strong for our threatened communities in the Northwest and simply the long awaited need for positive change for reconciliation in our country, I feel the spirit of this band is very important. This album, this tour, this family, The United Nations is an example energetically & spiritually of where we need to be as a nation. We will be touring regional places in Australia; some we’ve never been to, some we haven’t been for a long time, in order to deliver this message and celebrate the energy of one people with our fellow Australians. Its time to Boogie!”- Xavier Rudd
