"Originally from the magnificent mountain region of Lake Tahoe on the California/Nevada border, USA, Chad relocated to Australia in 2004. After a few years of international travel doing humanitarian aid and healing work, including a couple years in Cambodia, he is now based near beautiful and colourful Byron Bay, Australia where he lives with his wife, Tash and their two children Isa and Sundar. Although music has been an integral part of Chad’s existence and artistic expression for most of his life, it is here in Byron Bay that his musical journey has taken on a more public manifestation with the release of his first album, “Show Us The Way Of The Heart”.
If you’ve been to any of Chad’s live events, you know that his music is more of an invitation than a performance – an experience to be entered into. Chad’s style is unique. Being a multi-instrumentalist himself, he combines many influences to create a blend that is hard to categorize. Folky, progressive, contemplative, mystical – but the point is the message. His songs vary from upbeat, positive-vibe celebration tunes to deep, devotional guided meditations, all showcasing conscious lyrics – challenging, provoking, inspiring, drawing, awakening. Some are poetic images of Chad’s own spiritual journey; some are journeys in themselves. And some are just fun! The full length album, “Show Us The Way Of The Heart” is an undiluted musical articulation of the heart of Chad Wilkins, and many will find expression for their own hearts in its contents. It was recorded at the stunning Panoramix Studio in the breathtaking hills of Coorabell just behind Byron Bay. The recording features a large selection of excellent musicians local to the Byron area and was done mostly live with very few overdubs with the purpose of maintaining the raw, spontaneous feeling and spirit of live recording while harnessing the warmth and quality of analogue studio recording. Presenting diverse instrumentation on each track, each song is unique, spanning a large range of styles and genres. Be inspired and stirred by the distinct spirit and atmosphere of peace that is encapsulated within the music of this mystic minstrel." The night I captured Chad, I felt a deep connection to spirit and a great calming feeling was present. Chad truly has an amazing gift in his music. I love listening to his music. Tealight Tales: An intimate evening with Wes Carr Last night I was honoured to be part of a very special story, I guess a possible tale for Wes Carr perhaps, maybe, one day…. A intimate evening with Wes where he shared with us songs from his new album names "Roadtrip Confessions". I loved the sneaky stories he shared about each song which made them even more special. Wes has come a long way from his early days fronting Silverchair offshoot Tambalance to his well-published success on reality TV, now sharing his love for music in small intimate tea light sessions. Originally from his rural hometown in South Australia via Sydney, landing himself in LA. One of the "tales" Blood & Bone, a real raw story of his life journey, while difficult at times, still remaining filled with optimism. What a special night….. www.therhythmhut.com.au http://www.wescarr.com.au "Diesel n'Dub was a dream of mine for a long while. I had heard some of the Midnight Oil songs sung by other people and especially First Australians, then with my love of reggae music felt it right to fuse the two together. Reggae has always been a platform for rebel music, and Midnight Oil has always been a band that addresses world issues in a powerful musical way. I am always humbled by their willingness to take a stand and voice out what needs to be said. To invite prominent Indigenous singers to sing the parts once sung by Peter Garrett seemed very fitting.” ~ Declan Kelly "The following artists feature in the album such as Emma Donovan, Frank Yamma, Katie Noonan, Alex Lloyd, Radical Son, Pat Powell, Stiff Gins, Tony Hughes, Tina Harrod, Stu Fergie and mixed by Mad Professor. In keeping with Kelly’s vision the songs have been reinvented as dub reggae gems, adding weight to their timeless messages of self-realisation and equality for all peoples, while giving powerful Australian voices the opportunity to present these important songs in their own flavor. From the outset Kelly was determined that the project give back and set it up to raise awareness of Indigenous literacy issues and funds for the crucial work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The project was set up by Declan Kelly who along with label Diaspora Music, have become officially registered fundraisers for the foundation. Kelly and Diaspora Music are committed to donating a fixed percentage of profits generated from sales and exploitation of the recordings directly to the cause on behalf of all the artists involved with the project. Declan Kelly is now bringing the Diesel n’Dub project on the road, and The Rhythm Hut is honoured to be a part of this event, and will be the first stop on the tour! Declan will be bringing a full band, along with very special guests Tony Hughes, Radical Son, and Pat Powell. Supporting Diesel n'Dub on the night was Sydney reggae outfit King Tide, along with a very special performance from students at NAISDA Dance College. Aria award nominees King Tide are Australia’s’ premier original Rock Steady Reggae gut soul band. With appearance’s at festivals as wide and varied as “Sydney Festival Opening Night”, “Womadalaide”, “Ragamuffin festival”, “The Great Escape”, “Peats Ridge Festival”, “Wave Rock Weekender” W.A, Coast Fest”, “Playground Weekender”, “Reggaetown”,“Island Vibes Festival” “Sub Sonic Festival”, “Mullum Fest”, “Wollombi Fest”, “Rainbow Serpent Festival”, and recently headlining Reggaefest in Ballina with and as the backing band for Jamaican studio one legend Stranger Cole. "Dirty Sweet Nothings are a group of songs based on the diary pages of a hedonistic romantic Sydneysider. As the songs came to life, a band was formed that could only be aptly named Dirty Sweet Nothings. That's what they play, that's what they are. Carried out by a huge sounding three-piece band, the blushing lyrics wrap themselves around bluesy foot stomping grooves." http://dirtysweetnothings.bandcamp.com These images were captured at the Building Bridges Festival 2013 It was the 2nd year the 2013 Building Bridges Festival hit the stage at the Standard to present a host of Australian musical talent.
