I am part of the RAW Artist Family. Below are some head shots I captured during one of the RAW shows. Working with these amazing artists, I consider a true blessing.
What is RAW?
'To provide independent artists within the first 10 years of their creative career with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity. RAW ventures to provide the platform for these artists to be seen, heard, and loved.
RAW showcases indie talent in visual art, film, fashion design, music, performance art, hair and makeup artistry, and photography.
RAW is a fun and alternative way for artists to showcase both to their local community and the world-at-large.
We are not your average art show. We are loud, colorful, creative, and all about our artists. We are RAW.
RAW currently operates in over 60 cities across the United States, Australia, Canada and the UK!"
The History of Raw
"In 2003, a small-town girl graduated high school and moved to Los Angeles. Heidi Luerra's only wish was to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a fashion designer. Not wasting any time, she started her own clothing line. She soon realized that she was just one small fish in a very big pond. She sold her pieces at swapmeets on the weekends while going to school full-time, working part-time and interning in the fashion district.
After a while she thought ... "there's got to be a better way to get my work out there."
Surrounded by new friends and talented people in art, music, performance and film that were facing the same plight -- she decided to take matters into her own hands.
In 2005, Heidi Luerra threw her first multi-faceted showcase in Los Angeles. After much interest from the community, she found her calling -- to create a platform for the many talented budding artists out there.
In 2009, equipped with a mission of bringing tools and resources to artists, RAW was born. After the first RAW event, a local web developer, Matthew Klahorst approached Heidi about combining these art events with an online community for artists. From this collaboration came the next evolution of RAW -- promoting artists both online and offline.
In 2011, they decided to take the concept beyond Southern California, to the cities across the United States. In July 2012, RAW made its first international debut in Australia. In 2013, RAW opened additional locations in Canada and the UK. Years since its start, RAW is now hosting events and showcasing independent creatives in over 70 cities across the world."

Picture a balloon filled with creative pixy dust and it bursts! BOOM! Exiciting sights and sounds…This is Art Party
"Art Party is a global and multidisciplinary platform for emerging artists, founded in Sydney, Australia in 2012. Art Party began as a monthly event in Sydney, welcoming performances of musicians, poets, painters, magicians, comedians, fire spinners, clowns, rappers, burlesque dancers, VJs, DJs, sculptors, and dancers with a warm audience in artist-run spaces.
As time continued, Art Party has continued to connect with local businesses, innovators, artists, venues and the public to further facilitate the connection between inspiration and community. Art Party has travelled outside Sydney in a further attempt to create a dynamic, global community, including parties in Brisbane, Byron Bay, Gosford, Canberra, Melbourne, Airlie Beach, Bali, Goa Beach – India, St Petersburg – Russia, Nelson – Canada and London – UK.
All of this has been done on a dime. Crashing on couches and floorboards. Paying for rent with change because we took Art Party away on another road trip, surviving on 2-minute noodles and the grace of strangers. A passion project designed to be a meeting place for all the arts, for collaborative folk and those trying to also pay their rent in spare change.
Coming into our third year, we have built a Sydney-based show that sells out every month, with hands-down the best audience in town, and unique, impressive artists. Friends locally and internationally have been inspired by the events in Australia pledging to carry the warmth from our community onward and open up our humble stage to many more locations.
We are proud to have built a show that pays all contributors, hosts, artists, designers, and sound technicians. Any additional profits are re-invested into the growth of Art Party Australia and it’s international friends.
Let the arting begin!"
Here are some of the photos I captured during the Winter Warmer Art Party held on the Central Coast NSW.
Follow the link below to read about the Lost Paradise Festival Debrief.
“Back to nature”, the perfect mantra for the Lost Paradise festival. Three days filled with good vibes, sunshine, bright colours, delicious food, creativity and fantastic music in the magical surrounds of Glenworth Valley. Morning mist, fresh, cold water creeks, running horses and smiling faces. What more could you ask for?
Energy energy energy! Captured these guys during their performance at The Rhythm Hut's 2nd Birthday Celebrations in Gosford.
A little bit about the crew:
"We'd go back to the time when humans first started cooking potatoes. To the conception of the first hot potato. Our shows are usually where we get crazy however there was this one time we entered a round about in our tour bus at the exact same time the batman theme comes on the radio. We pumped the volume and all sang along "nananana..." As our driver circled the round about multiple times... We probably wouldn't do anything differently. What we've done has got us to where we are today. We wouldn't want to miss any moment/experience we've had over the past 6 years... Well maybe there is one or two…"
Wow! I have not heard or ever seen any band like Tijuana Cartel. Paul George and Carey O’Sullivan produce a hypnotic twist blended with laid back rhythms followed by soothing vocals, they form a sound which plays out a scene in the Wild Wild West yet in an urban jungle with its electronic beasts tapestry. They have just release their new album Psychedelicatessen and they blessed us with a few tunes from this album during the Rhythm Hut's 2nd birthday celebrations. Meeting the crew, exchanging funny wedding disaster stories from an supplier's view, to jamming on the dance floor was truly a night that will stay with my soul.
I captured the amazing and extremely talented Zoe & Abby during their light show at the Rhythm Hut's 2nd birthday celebration. With the crowd mesmerised and in awe, these ladies delivered once again a totally amazing show!

Bobby Alu. Gosh if I could give ONLY 2 words to describe him it would be "laid back". I have seen him and his band play live a number of times now and each time I feel like I should be in a hammock, sipping on a tropical cocktail. The music holds a touch unique fusion of percussion, reggae and jazz. Even a slight touch of pop. Filled with catchy songs, uplifting and diverse lyrics, powerful log drumming with a Polynesian ukulele sound. An accomplished songwriter & travelling musician born on the Gold Coast. I had the excellent opportunity to capture Bobby and his band at the Central Coast Leagues Club during their Australia-wide tour supporting Xavier Rudd & The United Nations. From the moment the band started playing, the sense of great friendship and warm fuzzy vibes quickly spread throughout the crowd.
‘Refreshing, groovy and chilled out all in one’ Timber And Steel
Bobby Alu is an accomplished songwriter & travelling musician born on the Gold Coast. He is a Singer, Ukulele strummer & drummer since the womb. Whether it’s with just him & the baritone ukulele or backed by a slick charismatic band Bobby is known for his signature smooth hammock music & high vibes. Inspired by his Polynesian heritage & following a strong family lineage of performers he writes songs of love, life & travel.
As one of Australia’s top drummers performing around the world for the past 6 years most recently for Xavier Rudd, it was a swift progression stepping out from behind the drumkit to take the mic. Making a name for himself Bobby Alu & his band have enjoyed repeat invitations to Bluesfest (2011/12), Woodford Folk Festival (2010/12), Nannup festival (2011/13) & Island Vibe (2010/11/13), boosting an already stellar CV for this increasingly in-demand performing artist.
Joined by highly respected QLD musicians Paulie B (The Beautiful Girls, George), Stewart Barry, Richie Seymour & Hua Hillman this band is the engine room facilitating a bed of style under Alu’s songs. Over the past four years they have been building popularity with successful tours & festival appearances in all states of Australia.
The band's latest release is the 'Bay Sessions' EP. Recorded live in Byron Bay & released Jan 2015, it has already recieved rave reviews with sold out shows.
“Bay Sessions is a beautiful collection of uplifting and diverse instrumentals and solicitous lyrics. Bobby’s approach to music encourages individuals to embrace their quirks and pure individualism, it’s not very often that music makes you feel so positive about yourself these days, but Alu does a fantastic job of making you smile and high-five yourself.”
Blank Gold Coast
The 2010 debut self-‐titled album sparked immediate following after being listed in Triple J Roots N All ‘Top 10 albums of 2010’ also peaking at #2 in the iTunes Australian world music charts. Song ‘One to Wait’ won a QLD music award & ‘Changes Changes’ was included in the popular Putumayo ‘Australia’ compilation released worldwide May 2014.The 2013 album 'Take It Slow' recieved great reviews, award nominations & featured in Virgin Australia's inflight selection. Bobby is also the drummer for Xavier Rudd’s latest project The United Nations. An 8‐piece powerhouse band currently touring the world.
LIVE: Expect a fresh, simple sound with tastes of Polynesian ukulele, pacific beats, catchy songs, tasty harmony & powerful log drumming on a bed of slick style. Pass through moments like you’re in a hammock or a slave to the beat. A band that grooves like Withers, moves like Marley, charms like Harper but smooth like Fat Freddys.
